2025 has been the year focused on the planets.  In February we had the Great Evening Planetary Alignment where all seven planets were visible in the night sky,  We have another Small Morning alignment in April and another Large Morning Alignment coming in August.,

Our solar system and particularly our planets have been of interest not only to scientists and astronomers but to poets and musicians as well. 20th century composer, Gustov Holst wrote his brilliant work, “The Planets” right around the time of the First World War from 1914-1916.   His piece includes a movement on each planet seen from Earth at that time.  “The concept of the work is astrological rather than astronomical, with each movement intended to convey the different 'personalities' of the planets and the ideas and emotions associated with the influence of the planets on the psyche; not the Roman deities.

The Michigan Philharmonic will be performing this amazing work on Saturday May 3, 2025.  For more information on the concert and to order tickets visit: www.michiganphil.org
