Specific Event Details

Want to learn to play American Mah Jongg?  Join us for this four-week learning series.  Registration for the March 2 program automatically registers you for the following 3 weeks as well; please only register if you can commit to all four weeks.

Mah Jongg is a 4-person game of strategy and skill that originated in China.  There are many versions of this game, with the American version enjoying popularity in the U.S. today.  Learning to play involves getting familiar with the tiles, learning the specifics of dealing & play, and especially learning to decipher and become familiar with the official card of playable hands***.

***Important:  In order to play American Mah Jongg, you need an Official Standard Hands and Rules card.  This card changes annually and is issued in April each year by the National Mah Jongg League (NMJL).  For our class, we will use a practice card, but before you play outside of the class, you will need to purchase an official card.  You can purchase the 2026 card now on the NMJL website and it will be mailed to you in April.

(Experienced players who would like to drop in unregistered to help us learn are enthusiastically welcomed, especially on weeks 3 & 4!)
